Nurse Pleads Guilty to Health Care Fraud (U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota)
Rapid City, South Dakota - Sarah Halley Kusick, age 24, of Sturgis, appeared before US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on May 4, 2010, and pled guilty to Count II of an indictment that charged her with Health Care Fraud. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
In July and August 2009, Kusick, a licensed practical nurse at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center, stole Oxycodone from the VA. The investigation was conducted by the Ft. Meade VA. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Carolyn G. Olson.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 26, 2010. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
